The Autumn Taxation Essential 2020 will be broken down over 2 days on the 6 & 8 October, and each half-day session is broken down into small digestible chunks.

We will be joined by James Bradley, ACCA, AITI and Brendan Casey, PRSI Consultant, who will be covering the following topics:

  • Trading in the UK as a Subsidiary Versus a Branch in light of Brexit
  • Inheritance Tax Implications on Foreign Properties
  • Helping Your Clients Defend Welfare Over-payment Demands
  • Sales of a Business – Should I sell the Shares or sell the Assets of the Company and Liquidate Company?
  • Wealth Transfer Planning
  • PRSI Applicable to Family Employment

Day 1 – Tuesday 6 October

Session 1: Trading in the UK as a Subsidiary Versus a Branch in light of Brexit

Time: 10:00 – 11:00

It is imperative to understand the tax implications Of trading as a subsidiary v branch . Tax efficiencies can be achieved when the correct vehicle to trade in the UK with is established


Session 2: Inheritance Tax Implications on Foreign Properties

Time: 11:00 – 12:00

Practitioners need to be aware of both Irish and non Irish tax implications the inheritance of foreign assets. How relief can be given in Ireland for foreign tax suffered in these inheritances.


Session 3: Helping Your Clients Defend Welfare Over-payment Demands

Time: 12:20 – 14:20
Speaker: Brendan Casey

Welfare are getting more aggressive with their demands for clawback of Means Tested payments, the clients need your help to settle or defend these cases. Estate Section in Welfare are actively targeting solicitors and executors of wills for repayment of means tested Welfare payments. Some of these demands can, with your assistance, be greatly reduced or cancelled completely.


Day 2 – Thursday 8 October

Session 1: Sales of a Business – Should I sell the shares or sell the assets of the Company and Liquidate Company

Time: 10:00 – 11:00

Practitioners need to advise clients be they sellers or buyers of a business . The reliefs that are available and tax pitfalls to avoid.


Session 2: Wealth Transfer Planning

Time: 11:00 – 12:00
Speaker: Jim Bradley

Practitioners need to be able to advise clients and n the CGT/ SD/CAT implications of these transfers interfamily. Also be able to advise clients on all the various tax reliefs that may be available.


Session 3: PRSI Applicable to Family Employment

Time: 12:20 – 14:20
Speaker: Brendan Casey

Covering all aspects of PRSI applicable to the employment of prescribed relatives in Sole-trading, Limited Companies or Registered Partnerships.

Brenden Casey, PRSI Consultant

Brendan Casey has been practising as a lecturer and a PRSI Consultant since retiring from the Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection over 10 years ago.

Brendan advises on PRSI liability issues and is an expert on all of Welfare’s contributory benefit and pension schemes.


Jim Bradley, ACCA, AITI

James Bradley ACCA, AITI. Is the principle of his own tax practice James Bradley & Co. James has also been lecturing/presenting for the Chartered Accountants Ireland, Institute of Taxation Ireland, Certified Public Accountants Ireland for over 15 years. He also sets tax exams for some of the above Institutes.

In practice, James deals with large and small clients alike and deals with tax issues under all tax heads – from Capital Taxes, Vat, Corporation Tax, Income Tax etc.
