Session 1: The Investment Landscape – What to expect and How to Position Yourself

The last 12 months have seen astonishing volatility in investment markets. Where are we now in terms of valuations, liquidity and investment prospects?

Who is this suited for?

This is aimed at finance professionals who may need to offer their clients investment advice or perspectives on the investment landscape as well of all us who have to manage our own investment and pension funds.

Course content

  • How did we get here? A review of market trends over recent years.
  • Where are we now? What do valuation levels, market liquidity and central bank statements indicate about our investment prospects?
  • What’s likely to happen? Why we may be about significant sectoral rotation (away from Faangs and towards cheaper and more traditional cyclical stocks). Why, after lying dormant for several decades, inflation may finally be about to make a comeback.
  • What are the investment conclusions of all this?

Session 2: Corporate Finance Update – Debt Funding and Equity Valuations

Now that we are finally beginning to see some light at the end of the pandemic tunnel, what are the implications for corporate finance in terms of valuations and credit availability?

This is aimed at finance professionals with an interest and involvement in mergers, acquisitions and company disposals.

Course content

  • Where were we before the pandemic? The steady recovery of the Irish economy and of Irish asset values since 2012.
  • What effect has the pandemic had? A tale of two economies with manufacturers and exporters continuing to thrive and many domestically-focussed businesses (pubs, hospitality, hotels etc) facing existential crisis.
  • What will the post-pandemic landscape look like?

Session 3: Brexit – What’s Coming and How to Prepare for it

The UK formally exited the European Union on January 31st but has continued to operate under EU rules during the Transition Period, which is scheduled to end on December 31st. What lies beyond that date?

This is aimed at finance professionals with clients that have a significant commercial exposure to Northern Ireland and/or Great Britain.

  • Deal, No Deal or Delay? What’s likely to happen?
  • Deal – What are the likely contours of an agreed Brexit? What are the implications for Irish business?

For many sectors, the pandemic means that all is changed, changed utterly. Now that we have moved from the end of the beginning towards the beginning of the end, planning recovery is moving up the corporate agenda.
